EXERCISE: EXPLORING DRAWING AND PAINTING

For this exercise, I chose to use a variety of different drawing materials & mark-making tools to create a ‘cupcake’ on different kinds of coloured, graph & textured paper or other surfaces. I experimented with different combinations of drawing / mark-making materials & surfaces to create interesting mixed-media effects. When completed, I collected the different sheets together using bulldog clips.

REFLECTION:

I experimented with a large variety of different mixed media combinations. Some were more effective than others. It was a fun way to explore new processes and ways of image making. It was an interesting way to learn what works well together & which processes are more challenging. I think out of all the different combinations, I enjoyed the following combinations the most:

– airbrushing onto the back of plastic bubblewrap

– using cotton-buds to make dots with food colouring & doodling with black Posca markers

– black ink stamps & food colouring on tissues

– fork prints with acrylic paint & sketching pencils

– green acrylic paint applied using an old mascara brush on black paper & white Gelly Roll pen
