RESEARCH TASK 1.1.3 – SONIA DELAUNAY

I enjoyed looking at the different sketchbook entries and artwork of Sonia Delaunay. I loved the way she used shape and pattern to create abstract compositions. She inspired me to experiment with using geometric shapes and lots of different colours.

I started by experimenting with different rough doodle designs in my sketchbook. I then created some new sketchbook entries using a black-and white checked patterned contact paper as background. I cut out geometric doodles drawn with micron pen and koi colouring brush pens and glue & stuck them on top of the check paper. I painted splashes using blue and yellow acrylic paint. I added a photograph of Sonia Delaunay’s clothing that I found on Pinterest on top, and a little doodle fashion design cut out I made on the other page. I added 2 of my favourite quotes by Sonia Delaunay.

THE PROCESS:

REFLECTION:

It was very interesting looking at Sonia Delaunay’s artwork and how it influenced fashion and interior design. I think her use of dynamic contrasting shapes and colours will continue to inspire me with future illustrations.
